For many families, summer is filled with busy schedules, sports practices, vacations, and endless to do lists. But for Emily Hunt and her family, there is one tradition they look forward to every year: Family Camp at Redwood Christian Park.
Emily first came to Redwood Christian Park as a teenager attending youth camp. It was here, surrounded by towering redwoods and a Christ-centered community, that she began taking some of the first steps in her faith journey. Years later, she now returns with her own family to experience Family Camp together.
A Family Camp Tradition That Spans Generations
Family Camp is more than just a week away from home. For Emily, it became a tradition that she started when she was only five years old. Now years later she brings her family to Family Camp.
One of Emily’s favorite Family Camp memories came during the first year she and her husband returned with their daughter, who was just eight months old at the time.
As first-time parents, they were still figuring out life with a baby and weren’t sure what attending camp would look like. What stood out most was the grace they experienced. There was no pressure to keep a strict schedule, make every service, or worry if their daughter made noise during chapel.
One evening, the family sat together on a blanket on the Tab lawn, listening to worship music as their daughter crawled around nearby. It was a simple moment, but one that became a cherished memory.
Since then, Emily has loved watching both of her children grow up at camp. From a baby crawling across the grass to her son exploring every corner of camp with endless energy, Family Camp has given their family a place to create memories year after year.
Finding Rest in the Redwoods
One of the things Emily loves most about Family Camp is the opportunity to slow down.
There is room to relax, laugh together, and simply enjoy being present with the people who matter most.
At the same time, families gather for chapel services where they worship together and hear biblical teaching that encourages and strengthens their faith.
We want Family Camp to be a time of both spiritual growth and physical rest for every family that attends.
Growing in Faith Together
One of the most meaningful aspects of Family Camp is the opportunity for families to grow spiritually together.
Rather than parents learning in one place and children learning in another, Family Camp creates shared experiences that families can talk about and carry home with them.
Emily describes the atmosphere this way:
“You are surrounded with love and grace and are met right where you are in the moment.”
Our desire is to create a Family Camp experience where people from every stage of life and every walk of faith feel welcomed, encouraged, and supported.
The Friendships That Bring Families Back
While the activities and beautiful setting are part of what makes Family Camp special, many families return because of the relationships they have built over the years.
Each summer, familiar faces return to camp. New friendships are formed, old friendships are strengthened, and families discover a community that continues long after the week is over.
Emily shares that some of her closest friendships have been formed through Redwood Christian Park. Seeing those friends year after year has become one of the highlights of Family Camp.
