“My granddaughter, who was 11… there was an altar call one night,” Butch recalls. “She was sitting in front of me in a row, and she was kind of looking around. And so I said, ‘Honey, are you wanting to go up there?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’”

With his walker, Butch stood, reached for her hand, and together they walked toward the altar.

“She gave her life to Christ,” he says simply. “And we cried.”

Moments like this are why Redwood Christian Park has mattered so deeply to Butch and Shari for more than fifty years and why they continue to give.

A Legacy of Faith Across Generations

Year after year, they’ve returned to RCP, trusting that God is still moving here.

For Butch and Shari, RCP has been the heart of their family’s faith journey for more than five decades.

“We’ve been coming to Redwood Christian Park for 53 years now,” Butch shares. “You could feel God here. And so we said to each other, this is something we’ve got to do every year.”

What started as a yearly commitment became a family legacy. Over time, their daughter and oldest son began bringing their own families. Those grandchildren now bring their children. Today, four generations of their family gather under the redwoods each summer.

For Shari, moments like walking a granddaughter to the altar are the heart of what makes RCP so meaningful.

“It’s things like that,” she says. “I mean, just a special thing that happens every year. You’d say magical, but it’s not magical. It’s just God.

That same belief is what shapes their generosity.

Why Giving Matters

We give because we love this place,” Shari shares. “Because we know that God is moving here, and we want to support that. There’s no boundaries as to what can happen here, and so we really want to be a part of that.”

Butch sees giving as a shared responsibility. “My belief is that if this is God’s camp—which I believe it is—it’s going to succeed,” he says. “All we can do is do our share.”

Shari sums up their heart behind giving: “We just trust that what He gives us, we need to honor Him with.”

Their story is a testament to what God can do in one family across generations and why supporting this ministry matters for the generations still to come. If RCP has played a role in your story, we invite you to join them in giving and helping create space for others to encounter God here.
