Scott Goodyear, known by many at camp as Scotty G., is a third generation Redwood Christian Park (RCP) board member, following in the footsteps of his father, Mike Goodyear, and his late grandfather, Ted Gerbaz.

Growing up, RCP was a non-negotiable part of Scott’s summers. From youth camps to family camps, and eventually serving for multiple years as a camp counselor, RCP helped shape his faith, leadership, and sense of calling.

When Scott arrives at RCP today, he is instantly transported back to those early years. Hymns come to mind, especially Have Thine Own Way, Lord:

Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

This hymn holds deep meaning for Scott because he remembers singing it in the RCP tabernacle as a child. The words reflect the heart of what RCP represents, a place where lives are shaped, faith is molded, and hearts are yielded to God’s will.

Scott recalls one summer afternoon at camp when Reverend Alvern VomSteeg approached him and asked with simple sincerity, “What’s God doing in your life, Scotty?”

The question caught Scott completely off guard. He didn’t have an answer at the time, but that moment stayed with him. For the past 30 years, he has reflected on that question, allowing it to shape how he listens, how he serves, and how he leads. Today, when Scott G comes to RCP, he not only has an answer ready, he now asks that same question of others. Whether sitting poolside or walking the grounds, he delights in hearing what God is doing in the lives of campers and sharing what God is doing in his own.

Last year, Scott served as Camp Dean during Family Camp. From hosting the epic series of team games, the Family Camp Gauntlet, and to checking in on campers during meal times, Scott helped create an environment where families could experience the same kind of life change that shaped him years ago at RCP.
